Colleague, How Important Is a Good Office Chair?

If you work in an office, you know how much a bad chair can affect you. From needing frequent breaks to having constant muscle pain, both you and your productivity can really suffer at the hands of a bad chair. Unfortunately, many people don't realize how much a good chair can help them. They rely on the same old chair because they haven't experienced anything better.

If you are going to be sitting at your desk all day, you deserve a chair that not only keeps you comfortable, but actually helps you be more productive and healthy.

Here are 7 tell-tale signs that your chair is not carrying its share of the workload. If you can identify with 3 or more, consider a new chair sooner rather than later:
  1. Fixed arms – They never seem to be where you want them. Plus, the great curve in them just doesn't seem to fit with your straight-boned forearms.
  2. Poor back height adjuster – The single screw knob that holds the back of the seat in place just just can’t seem to resist working loose all the time.
  3. Cheap seat foams – Do you find after a short while of sitting back pain and discomfort sets in? Is the chair's fabric all loose and baggy?
  4. Seat doesn’t tilt – Your chair lets you sit at any angle as long as it’s 90 degrees, and after a day's work, your body is morphed into a set square.
  5. Chair has no tension adjustment – If you’re light built, your chair dictates to you how you sit in it. If you’re well built, you may experience being bounced all over the place because you’re stronger than the chair’s mechanism.
  6. Seat doesn’t adjust to your leg length – Most chairs don't have this feaure, but it is key to being comfortable. Look around any office you’ll see the sufferers: short-legged people perched on the seat edge because it’s way too deep; long-legged people seated back in their chair and still their legs overhang the chair edge by a mile.
  7. Adjustment levers are loose and imprecise – Do the adjustment levers on your chair slosh around? Are they really awkward to operate and feel like you’re stirring a cake mix?
Although you may think that the chair you have right now is adequate, you'll never know until you try out a new one. Stop by Olpin Group's Yorba Linda office to try out some more modern options that will keep your office looking good, and keep you healthy and comfortable.
