Planning an Office Move, Colleague? Use These Tips to Keep It Smooth and Organized
Moving and office can be extremely chaotic, but there are some easy things that you can do to make sure the move goes smoothly. Plus, we've included
a few tips we learned from our recent move to help you negotiate with your landlord and get the most out of your new space.
Moving Tip 1: Start early! Get as much done as you can ahead of time so that you are all set when the big day comes. Three months is
a good amount of time to start planning and make the necessary arrangements.
Moving Tip 2: Have a plan. Measure all the new rooms and keep a list of all the items that need to fit into each room. Determine the
best set up for each room to maximize your workflow and space. Create a drawing of where each item needs to go so the rooms can easily be set up when
the
moving company arrives.
Moving Tip 3: Contact your service providers in advance. Make a list of every company you need to contact to update services with
your new address. For electricity, gas, internet, phone and mail services, be sure to contact each company well in advance to request
that
your services be switched to your new location.
Moving Tip 4: Negotiate with your landlord. Prior to signing a leasing agreement, talk over details with your landlord, particularly
in regards to the IT setup and any building maintenance issues you see. You may be able to negotiate some IT upgrades, new paint, new flooring or
other benefits as part of your agreement.
Moving Tip 5: Avoid moving-related injuries. Choose moving cartons between 1.5 and 2.0 cubic feet in volume.
Anything larger than that could be too heavy for employees to move safely without injuring themselves.
